BeiDou satellite expo opens in east China

A satellite exposition opened on 04 June in Nanjing, capital city of east China's Jiangsu Province, displaying the latest navigation technologies and products of BeiDou satellites. The three-day exposition, the second China (Nanjing) BeiDou Satellite Navigation Application Expo, will attract 200 exhibitors and 5,000 visitors, according to its organizer. Over 30 scholars and academicians from the satellite and smart industries will also participate in a forum held during the expo.

China to complete BeiDou-3 satellite system by 2020

China's BeiDou-3 system, a global geolocation network, is expected to be completed in 2020, with a total of 35 satellites, researchers at a conference on the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) said Jin Shuanggen, a researcher at Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences, at the second China (Nanjing) BeiDou Satellite Navigation Application Expo and Beidou Summit Forum. First sea launch from Yellow Sea under preparation

China is set to conduct the country's first space launch from a mobile sea-based platform in its territorial waters before the end of this year, aiming to provide a new option for domestic and international clients, Li Tongyu, Long March 11's project manager said. A Long March 11 solid-propellant carrier rocket will lift off from a modified drilling rig-in the Yellow Sea off Shandong province. "This mission was initially intended as a technological demonstration of a seaborne launch, but we later decided to make it a commercial operation," Li said to China Daily in his office at the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology in southern Beijing.

Core material for new type of Long March 3A payload fairing completely domestically made

The new Long March 3-A payload fairing with a diameter of 4.2 meters was designed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC)'s China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology and has been delivered, according to a company statement published on its official WeChat account on 31 May. "Previous payload fairings with a diameter of 5 meters were built with imported materials," read the statement. "The materials, especially the core materials, used this time for a new type of payload fairing were completely domestically made, laying a solid foundation for applications for all the country's launch vehicles." The core materials are made from homegrown polymethacrylimide (PMI), a light and stable material with heat-resistance and noise cancelling capabilities, allowing full wave penetration that enables spacecraft including satellites to receive and send radio signals.

Four Hainan 1 satellites are planned for the end of the year
