In-orbit communication satellite delivered to Hong Kong firm

China's commercial satellite launch company has completed in-orbit delivery of communication satellite "APSTAR-6C" to its Hong Kong customer. It was delivered to Hong Kong-based APT Satellite Co., Ltd, on 07 August, according to China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC), a commercial agency authorized by the Chinese government to operate commercial launches, provide satellite delivery services and international cooperation. With a designed life of 15 years, APSTAR-6C will provide communication and satellite broadcasting services to customers across the Asia-Pacific region, and will have a big potential market for providing services to support the Belt and Road Initiative.

Chinese rockets models on display in Malaysia

Malaysian people in the northern state of Penang were able to have a close look at the models of the rockets and spacecraft used in China's space missions such as the Yutu moon rover with the opening of the Space Exploration Gallery on 04 August. The six models, including four in the Long March rocket family, the Chang'e 3 lunar lander and Yutu lunar rover, were donated by the China Science and Technology Museum with an estimated value of half a million ringgit (123,000 U.S. dollars). Malaysian Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, who personally pushed for the donation when he was the chief minister of Penang two years ago, thanked the Chinese side in his speech on 04 August. He said the Malaysian government values its relations with China and will continue to support China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative. Chinese Consul-General in Penang Lu Shiwei said the six models symbolize the good relations between the two countries and will further strengthen the bond.

China solicits international cooperation experiments for its future space station

China is asking the world to collaborate in experiments on its planned space station so as to promote international space cooperation and sustainable global development. The Committee on Science and Technology Experiments of the Chinese Space Station was established recently under the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST). The offer is open to the entire international community. Proposals and projects can be submitted online (www.css-research.cn) and peer-reviewed. The candidate projects will go through to the China Manned Space Agency.

Satellite observations help monitor sea level pressure

Satellite remote sensing observations can be used to measure sea level pressure, according to a recent Chinese research. Scientists from the National Space Science Center proposed a new method to obtain high temporal and spatial resolution sea level pressure through remote sensing observation. They testified the method using observations from U.S. weather satellite Suomi NPP. Sea level pressure is a very important meteorological index for weather forecasting. It is mainly measured by weather buoys and merchant ships.
