China's most powerful low-orbiting communication satellite, also the biggest spacecraft ever built by a private Chinese company, was launched on 16 January at 11:02 h (Beijing Time) by a Kuaizhou-1A (KZ-1A) carrier rocket. The GalaxySpace 1, designed and built by the Beijing-based startup GalaxySpace, has also been widely considered the country's first 5G-capable satellite that features a very strong capability in data transmission.

China sent a new optical remote-sensing satellite for commercial use into planned orbit from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China's Shanxi Province in the morning of the 15 January. The satellite, belonging to the Jilin-1 satellite family, also named Red Flag-1 H9, was launched by a Long March-2D carrier rocket at 10:53 BJT. The new satellite, developed by the Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd., has a super-wide coverage and a resolution at the sub-meter level. It is also capable of high-speed data storage and transmission.

Ethiopia seeks to boost space science cooperation with China to forge a long term partnership, Solomon Belay, Director General of Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute (ESSTI) told Chinese media. "Chinese assistance in space science, through joint space related researches and projects will help Ethiopia achieve significant technological and economic development," the official said, who also revealed that in the near future, China is expected to help Ethiopia build a continental satellite data receiver station, which can receive and disseminate space information across the African continent.
Belay said with Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa home to the African Union (AU) Headquarter, the continental satellite data receiver station will be ideally placed to disseminate information to various African countries.

On 3 January 2020, the Ground Research and Application System (GRAS) of the Chinese Lunar Exploration Project publicly released scientific data acquired by Chang'e 4 during the 1st to 12th lunar day. The Landing Camera (LCAM), installed at the bottom of the lander, has acquired the lunar surface images surrounding the landing site at a height of 2 km to 4 m during the lander's descending phase. The Level 2A scientific data released, contain a total of 5.441 data record files (.2A file), each of which is accompanied by a descriptive label file (.2AL) of the same name (in total: 10.882 files).

Also, the scientific data acquired by 5 scientific payloads on-board Chang'e-4 lander and rover during the 1st to 12th lunar day were made available. A total of 17,239 data files, with a total data volume of 20.9 GB were released.
