Xi'an Aerospace Propulsion Institute applied for arbitration at a local labor dispute arbitration agency on 20 May in order to retain Zhang Xiaoping, a deputy director of rocket design in Xi'an, who moved to private company Landspace earlier this year. The reason the institute applied for an arbitration is that Zhang, who was involved in some national key programs, knows a lot of confidential information and should go through formalities before he quit to ensure that secrets are not released, according to rules.

Tiangong-2, China's sole space lab orbiting the Earth, will safely leave its orbit under manual control after July 2019, Lin Xiqiang, Deputy Director of the China Manned Space Engineering Office said at a media briefing on China's space projects on 26 September.

China will carry out large-scale scientific experiments on space application projects after the completion of China's space station. "The space station can support space applications in and out of the cabin, and the payload can be adjusted in orbit," Lin Xiqiang, Deputy Director of the China Manned Space Engineering Office said at a media briefing on China's space projects on 26 September. "I believe the large-scale experiments will bring more important achievements with international influence and application value."

The state-of-art technology and the spectacle of the giant dish have become a magnet for tourists over the years. Tourism took off in the once-impoverished town surrounded by lush forests as wider roads, fancy hotels and bustling shops have sprung up. The tourist surge has also stoked concerns that it might affect the telescope whose probe results can be compromised by radio signals from electronic devices carried by tourists.
