China willing to cooperate with India in space, says top Chinese scientist

China is willing to cooperate with India in space programmes but this depends on the governments deciding the extent of collaboration, a top Chinese aerospace scientist has said, playing down the so-called “space race” between the two countries. “We are very willing to cooperate with India in the field of aerospace,” said Sun Weigang, Chief Engineer of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC).

China to provide more opportunities to private companies for space exploration

Tian Yulong, Secretary General of the China National Space Administration (CNSA), said at the Global Space Exploration Conference GLEX that commercial aerospace programs had been carried out in low Earth orbit (LEO), but those in deep space exploration would be a challenge. "In deep space exploration, we need to provide a favorable environment for middle and small-sized enterprises," he said. "The CNSA is working on enabling enterprises to become the main force of technical innovation by creating favorable laws and policies," Tian added.

China and Russia discuss cooperation in each others lunar exploration programmes

During the Global Space Exploration Conference GLEX, Xu Yansong, the Head of the Department for International Cooperation of the China National Space Administration (CNSA) told Russian news agency RIA Novosti that China and Russia are discussing options for cooperation in projects for the exploration of the Moon: "We are trying to cooperate on the lunar programme, because China has its missions Chang'e-4, Chang'e-5, Chang'e-6, Russia has Luna-26, Luna-27, Luna-28. These are very similar missions, and we are discussing with Russia possible cooperation within these projects at the system level or the overall stage."

China moves ahead in horizontally-launched spacecraft

China has moved ahead with its research and development of reusable horizontal take-off and landing spacecraft, and has completed tests of key components, including engines, a senior executive of the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC), said 6 June. Progress has also been made in the research and development of reliable and cost-effective solid fuel launch vehicles, Liu Shiquan, CASIC deputy general manager, said at the Global Space Exploration Conference (GLEX 2017) on 6 June.
