As of midnight 6 January, Yutu 2 has traveled 1,003.9 m on the far side of the Moon. YT-2 closed in on the cubic object photographed on 36th lunar day in November 2020. During the 38th lunar day, the rover's panoramic camera was commanded to take color photos from 10 m distance. After initial interpretation, the science team assumes that the object is a lunar rock. YT-2 will continue with close-up inspection of the rock and the impact crater behind the object during the next lunar day.
