Upon request from potential applicants, in order to provide enough time for you to prepare applications in response to the 1st Announcement of Opportunity (AO) for flying your space experiments on-board the China Space Station (CSS), the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) have decided to extend the AO deadline by one month to 30 September 2018 for the international space community and all United Nations Member States to submit their applications.

Russia is showing increasing interest in cooperating with China on the nearby Vostochny spaceport. Alexander Molchanov, deputy general of the spaceport, said the new spaceport facility is very important to Russia. Russia is now looking forward to starting a series of aerospace cooperation projects with China, not only those related to the new spaceport, but various forms of aerospace exchanges as well. Earlier this month, a joint exhibition about Sino-Russian aerospace cooperation was held in Moscow, jointly sponsored by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Moscow Aviation Institute.

Russia will strengthen cooperation with China by supplying its rocket engines to China, Hu Bin, Counselor of the Department of Treaty and Law at China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Russian media Sputnik on 12 September on the sidelines of the first UN Conference on Space Law and Policy. "China and Russia are very good friends, and all cooperation, bilateral cooperation should extend to space. We take it as a very good initiative," Hu said. The official added that space cooperation between Russia and China could comprise research and engineering.

On September 10, Yu Xinwen, Deputy Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) met with Renato Krpoun, Head of Swiss Space Office (SSO) in Beijing. They respectively introduced the satellite development and discussed how to carry out scientific and technological cooperation on satellite payloads. SSO and CMA have carried out scientific cooperation in the development of Fengyun satellite instruments.

Don’t think China is a major space power yet? For now, it’s had only sporadic success, but China could well be on the road to becoming just as important as NASA. Will CNSA ever challenge NASA or Russia’s space agency ROSCOSMOS for dominance in space tech? Brian Harvey, space analyst and author of "China in Space: The Great Leap Forward" calls China’s space program ‘extremely economical’ and stresses that it concentrates only on certain areas. “It all precedes at a fairly slow pace, but don’t be deceived by that,” he warns.”Ultimately it’s going to catch up with a lot of any other countries.”
