Chinese scientists have set a world record for entanglement of 18 quantum bits, keeping their lead in the field of quantum computing. The research by scientists at the University of Science and Technology of China was recently published in the academic journal, Physical Review Letters. The manipulation of multi-particle entanglement is the core of quantum computing technology and has been the focus of international research competition, said Pan Jianwei, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a leading scientist of the study.

On the occasion of the UNISPACE+50 conference, currently taking place at the UNO City in Vienna, the GoTaikonauts! team issued a special edition of its newsletter. UNISPACE+50 commemorates the 50th anniversary of the 1968 UN Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. UNISPACE II and UNISPACE III have taken place in 1982 and 1999 respectively. After 19 years, the global space community came together again to discuss the "Space2030" agenda, aiming at the sustainable preservation of outer space for future generations and cooperation across all stakeholder groups of the society.
To join the debate, GoTaikonauts! published the special edition newsletter, featuring an interview with H.E. Shi Zhongjun, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations in Vienna, explaining the importance China attaches to its engagement within UNOOSA and its invitation to all UN Member States for the utilisation of the CSS. Furthermore, UNOOSA Director Simonetta Di Pippo gives an comprehensive overview on the work of UNOOSA and the motivation of including the capabilities of the CSS in the UN programmes.
A report by Marco Aliberti and Leyton Wells of the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI) on the ESPI-CNSA event "China Engages: Opportunities and Prospects for the International Space Community" gives a broader summary on the current status of cooperation between China and the major space faring nations Russia, U.S. and Europe.

Shi Zhongjun, China's ambassador to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, called for strengthening of outer space governance and cooperation in the international community's joint effort to build a shared future in space exploration. He made the remarks at the UNISPACE+50 gathering, held to mark the 50th anniversary of the first United Nations Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.
The Chinese envoy called for efforts to foster a sense of shared future to promote the sustainable development of outer space. A shared vision for the future in space exploration and use is not only consistent with the objectives and purposes established in the Outer Space Treaty but also in line with current needs to protect the outer space environment and promote sustainability both for outer space activities and socioeconomic development, Shi said.

China, UN Office enhance cooperation on outer space affairs
20 June 2018
Cooperation between China and the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) is going from strength to strength, the Head of the office Simonetta Di Pippo said on 19 June in Vienna. Di Pippo said China has not only made great achievements in outer space exploration and its related activities but also demonstrated its commitment to international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space. China plans to open up the China Space Station (CSS) to all the Member States of the United Nations with opportunities for flying their space experiments on board the Station. This is, she said, a groundbreaking project and one that will bring concrete benefits to countries for advancing their space science and technology development. Through an agreement between UNOOSA and the China National Space Administration (CNSA), China provides satellite imagery to countries in need of support in their preparedness, mitigation and early warning actions where the methods and techniques applied can benefit from Earth observation data.
