Think of the private sector in space, and chances are that SpaceX comes to mind. But rocket by rocket, payload by payload, communist China is laying the foundations for the future domination of the private space industry. For the moment, China is the fourth-largest market for private aerospace investment behind the U.S., U.K. and France. It has attracted just 3 percent of the world’s total private investment in this sector since 2009, but it’s the fastest-growing market in the world, according to New York–based Space Angels, which offers financial services to the industry.

I visited my very first air show - China’s much talked and hyped about 2018 Zhuhai Air Show - this past weekend (10/11 November), and like many of those awesome first experiences, this too would turn out to be an experience of a lifetime. It was Nov. 11th - Veteran’s Day back in the States. But in China, this particular day held another, yet, similar commemorative purpose: It was the 69th anniversary of the creation of the People’s Liberation Army: Air Force, or PLA Air Force. In other words, it was time to celebrate!
​So, open up an air base, put on some well crafted aerial stunts featuring China’s latest fighter jets, and throw in a bunch of cool displays showcasing the world’s second largest economy’s stronghold on modern and futuristic aircrafts, comprehensive air defense systems, and yet-to-be-revealed space-tech? Well, that’s an easy guess - count me in!

Ethiopia is set to launch its first earth observatory satellite in September 2019, joining a list of few African countries that have put the devices into orbit. “The satellite will be launched from China while the control and command station will be in Ethiopia," said Dr Solomon Belay Tessema, the director general of the Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute at the Addis Ababa University. He added that "most preliminary and critical design is done by our scientists.”

On 14 November, the APSCO 10th Anniversary High Level Forum was held in Beijing. China National Space Administration (CNSA), China Meteorological Administration (CMA), and Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) signed Fengyun meteorological satellite cooperation agreement, which will optimize the configuration of FY series satellite constellation, and enable data resources and services of FY series meteorological satellites to further benefit APSCO and its member states.

On 12 November,the fifth Session of International Strategic Consultative Committee on Chinese Meteorological Satellite Programmes and the First Fengyun Satellite Users' Conference was held in Chengdu, Sichuan province. National and international experts gathered together to contribute their suggestions to FY satellites development in next ten years, and further exchanged views over how to ramp up the satellite data application capabilities. Tillmann Mohr, Chair of International Strategic Consultative Committee on Chinese Meteorological Satellite Programmes explains in an interview topics like FengYun satellite application and global cooperation.

On 6 November 2018, China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) and China Siwei Surveying and Mapping Technology Co.Ltd. (China Siwei) signed the Contract of Superview-1 Satellite Data Overseas Marketing. Since the launch of Superview-1 01&02 in December 2016, CGWIC and China Siwei have been jointly working on the international market development of the Superview-1 satellites.
