On 24 April 2017, construction began on China's first commercial space industry center in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province.
The Wuhan National Space Industry Base aims to attract at least 100 enterprises involved in the space industry before 2020 and generate 30 billion yuan ($4.36 billion) in annual gross product by then, according to China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp, the main investor. The center will occupy 68.8 square kilometers in Xinzhou district.

Venture firm Matrix Partners China has joined a RMB100 million (US$14.5 million) series A-financing round in TianYi Research Institute, a Changsha, Hunan province-based commercial microsatellite start-up, according to Chinese media reports.
Existing investors Northern Light Venture Capital, and Cash Capital, a venture capital unit under state-owned Chinese Academy of Science Holdings, also participated in the round. Founded in 2016, TianYi Research Institute is one of the first microsatellite start-up established after the nation opened up the commercial aerospace market to private enterprises.

The rise of China's technological prowess is reflected in the size of its tech companies. But a more tangible reflection of Chinese tech giant's growing status and ambition is can be seen in the building they are constructing to house their future. China's largest tech companies, Alibababa, Tencent, Baidu and Xiaomi, have recently or are currently building headquarters whose size and architectural bravado match their grand ambitions.
These new headquarters, as futuristic as Apple's spacecraft-shaped campus or Amazon's spherical glass buildings, incorporate the newest technologies and display the emerging prowess of their owners. They will transform the physical looks and feel of these companies as they rise on the global stage.

China on 27 April successfully refueled its Tiangong-2 space lab in orbit, proving it has mastered the last crucial piece of technology to fulfill the country's space station ambition. The mission's Chief Commander, Zhang Youxia, announced the success of the test at 7:10 p.m. BJT (1110 GMT) in the mission's Beijing command center after a five-day process.

The implementation of the Belt and Road initiative that comprises the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road still offers a big opportunity for various satellite communications equipment vendors and services providers.
To be specific, satellite communications services will be indispensable for Chinese enterprises seeking to build infrastructure in countries and regions along the route where there are no adequate networks on the ground. The countries and regions that can be considered key markets for domestic satellite communications firms are Pakistan, the five Central Asian countries and African countries. Chinese offerings might be more sensitive in countries such as India.
